Kinesiology Taping

Taping has been shown to enhance performance, control and prevent injury, and improve postural strain. One of the ways that the tape works is by gently lifting the skin from the underlying tissues (muscle, fascia, nerves) in order to improve circulation. This increased circulation allows removal of toxins, and lymph drainage from the area of application. It also brings nutrients to the area in order to speed recovery time from injuries, and as coined by RockTape, in certain situations taping allows athletes to "Go Stronger, Longer." Unlike athletic taping, kinesiology taping does not serve to prevent movement. This form of taping allows the patient to perform normal ranges of motion.

Taping can be used to:

  • -Decrease Swelling/ Edema/ Inflammation

  • -Improve circulation for heightened athletic performance

  • -Improve Posture

  • -Decrease Pain

  • -Take the burden off of healing muscles

As stated by PhD Anatomist, Gil Hedly, “the skin is very much the brain of the superficial fascia, and they are thoroughly mechanically related.” This follows the theory of fascial unloading. When the kinesiology tape is applied to a certain area, it reduces fascial stress, decreases congestion, and decreases pain and restrictions.

Thomas Meyers (author of Anatomy Trains) wrote about taping, stating “all the early indications are that taping can be very effective in 'unhooking' dysfunctional connections and establishing more effective new locomotor pathways.”

Dr. Moses and Dr. Guthrie are certified in Functional Taping for Musculoskeletal injuries through FAKTR, and use taping in various situations as an additional tool for treatment in certain individuals. Ask the team at Pure Motion if taping may be beneficial for you!
